Puerto Rican Pieta is a portrait of the artist and his mother. In his work, Cruz shows moments of quiet reflection and psychological intensity, often combining figuration, abstraction, and collage . David Antonio Cruz, (b. 1974, Philadephia) is a Puerto Rican artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
His many exhibitions and awards include LMCC workspace, New York, NY, franklin Furnace, NY, NY, Yale Summer School of Art, Norfolk Fellowship Award, Norfolk, Ct. , Artist in the Marketplace, Bronx Museum, Bronx, NY. His work has been written about in the New York Times, Time Out New York, The Wall Street Journal, and Bomb magazine, among others. Currently he is a resident of Gateway Project Spaces.
