Pippiloti Rist: Pixel Fores
Thirty year survey of the work of Pippilotti Rist at The New Museum, New York City.
On view from October 26, 2016 through January 1, 2016.
Pixel Forest, the first comprehensive survey of Rist’s work in New York, occupies the three main floors of the museum. It includes early single-channel videos from the 1980s investigating the female body in popular culture, as well as her most recent all-encompassing video-installation environments, including mood-enhancing musical scores. These dream-like pieces bring unexpected encounters with texture, form, and the living environment. Curated by Massimilio Gioni, the exhibit exemplifies Rist’s successful fusion between the biological and electronic.
Pippilotti Rist (b. 1962, Switzerland) lives and works in Zurich. Solo exhibitions of her work have been presented internationally at venues including Kunsthaus Zürich, Kunsthalle Krems, Austria, Times Museum, Guangzhou, China, Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea, Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Milan, Hayward Gallery, London, the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH (2011); Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, TX , among many others. Rist was awarded the Zurich Festival Prize, the Harper’s Bazaar Art China Prize, and the Joan Miró Prize.
